Wildeklawer, Africa's largest onion producer and a leading supplier of potatoes, carrots and beets, is expanding and seeking a Chief Operating Officer (COO) to join our dynamic leadership team.
With operations spread across three production units and our headquarters in Barkly West (near Kimberley), Wildeklawer plays a key role in the fresh produce industry and community development.
As COO, you will be responsible for optimising the management of the company’s leadership team, assets, daily operations, implementing strategic plans, and delivering world-class performance.
Primary responsibilities:
- Senior management: Lead a management team, set strategies and objectives, and oversee daily operational functions;
- Relationships: Manage collaborations with partners, suppliers, and stakeholders;
- Staff development: Foster a work environment that encourages ownership and growth;
- Warehousing: Oversee optimal and effective processes, ensuring compliance with food safety and quality standards;
- Marketing: Develop strategies to increase sales and strengthen the brand, working with sales departments to explore new markets;
- Logistics: Manage the transport, storage, and distribution of products to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery;
- Technical department: Collaborate with and oversee the engineering team;
- Packaging materials: Control stock and costs of packaging materials, ensuring client specifications are met;
- Performance monitoring: Analyse management information and propose improvements;
- Expansion activities: Participate in investments, acquisitions and corporate alliances;
- Other: Ensure integrated and efficient operations while maintaining compliance with internal policies.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in a similar leadership role;
- A proven management track record with in-depth knowledge of financial management, strategic planning, and risk management;
- A relevant degree or postgraduate qualification in one or more of the following fields: Industrial Engineering, Process Engineering. An MBA qualification will be advantageous;
- A passion for agriculture is essential.
