A prestigious high-end Wine Estate located in the heart of Franschhoek, Western Cape, South Africa, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Financial Controller/ Senior Accountant to join the Finance team. This pivotal role will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and will be the glue that links the Estates finances and its people. The successful candidate will work closely with all departments across the estate, requiring excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach.
Key Responsibilities includes but are not limited to:
- Implement the finance strategy across all departments, ensuring alignment with the estate's overall business goals.
- Develop, monitor, and control budgets, providing regular reports and analysis to the CFO and other stakeholders.
- Analyse and control costs, identifying opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements.
- Assist in capital allocation decisions and manage the estate's assets to maximize returns and ensure proper maintenance.
- Manage the estate's cash flow, ensuring sufficient liquidity to meet operational needs.
- Oversee and manage all accounts payable and receivable functions, ensuring timely and accurate processing of invoices and payments.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all financial transactions, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
- Perform regular reconciliations of all estate bank statements and credit card transactions to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Assist in the management of financial risk and compliance, ensuring adherence to legal and regulatory requirements, including SARS.
- Manage and control all tax-related matters, ensuring compliance with local tax laws and regulations.
- Prepare for and coordinate all external audits, ensuring all financial records and documentation are accurate and readily available.
- Oversee financial administration and systems, and manage ad hoc projects as required to support the estate's financial objectives.
- Manage all day-to-day finance operations, working closely with the finance team and CFO to ensure smooth and efficient financial management.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, and/or a professional accounting qualification (e.g., CA, CPA) is highly desirable.
- Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in accounting or finance, with at least 5 years in a senior financial accounting role.
- Experience in the wine industry or a similar high-end consumer goods sector is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and tax regulations. Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable insights.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues at all levels of the organization.
- Leadership skills, with the ability to manage and motivate a finance team.
- Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail, capable of managing multiple tasks and priorities.
- Strong financial skills, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
