Stellenbosch Hills, a well-established wine estate based in Stellenbosch, is looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to join their dynamic team.
This role is ideal for a finance professional who understands the complexity of agricultural production and retail operations, and will play a key role in maintaining the integrity of financial systems and reporting while providing strategic insights to support decision-making across wine production and the tasting room.
Key responsibilities will include: *Managing and overseeing daily operations of the finance function (including general ledger, cost accounting, inventory accounting, and revenue recognition) *Preparing financial statements, management accounts, and cash flow forecasts *Maintaining cost tracking for wine production and bottling, cellar costs, and inventory valuation (WIP and finished goods) *Monitoring and reconciling stock levels for wine, bulk wine, dry goods, and consumables *Preparing and submitting tax returns (VAT, PAYE, Excise, SAWIS submission, Income Tax) *Supporting the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis across departments *Assisting with audit preparation and liaising with external auditors *Ensuring accurate recording and classification of revenue from DTC (direct-to-consumer), and wholesale *Payroll processing and reconciliations *Providing financial insights to management to support operational efficiency and profitability *Driving improvements in internal controls, reporting systems, and financial processes *All other duties related to the role.
Essential qualifications, skills and experience:
- BCom degree in Accounting or Finance;
- Minimum 5 years’ relevant accounting experience (including stock and cost accounting), preferably in the wine/agricultural/production industries;
- Knowledge of SA tax and financial reporting standards (IFRS/SARS compliance);
- Advanced MS Excel skills and working knowledge of accounting systems (e.g., Sage Evolution, Xero, Pastel, or QuickBooks);
- Familiarity with inventory and production software (e.g., WineMS, EzyWine) will be advantageous.
