Situated in the cool-climate Elgin Valley, Oak Valley is renowned for producing premium wines that reflect the region’s distinctive terroir. From our award-winning Sauvignon Blanc to elegant Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, we produce authentic wines that tell the story of our landscape.

Your Role:

We have an exciting new opening at Oak Valley Estate. The job title refers to the all-rounder set of skills and interests of our ideal candidate. Perhaps you have done many vintages but are looking for more exposure to the many tasks and responsibilities of this unique job title. When you are not busy with hands-on winery work, you will head out into the vineyards where you will also assist in overseeing tasks in our Estate vineyards. And just to make sure you will not get bored you will get roped into events, marketing content capturing and yes, admin! You must be comfortable with the physical demands of a small winery including barrel work.

This is a permanent, salaried position and includes on farm housing. You will report directly to the Winegrower/General Manager and be an integral part of our small and dedicated team.

The ideal candidate would have the necessary skills and experience to do the following tasks:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execution of all winemaking activities from harvest through to final packaging
  • Implementing and maintaining winery hygiene protocols
  • Managing our warehouse dry-goods inventory
  • Maintaining accurate administration and records for SAWIS, IPW (Farm and Winery), and WIETA compliance
  • Recording and tracking viticultural tasks and activities
  • Monitoring and managing time and attendance for wage staff

Candidate Requirements:

  • Degree in Viticulture and Oenology
  • Minimum of 3 years practical winemaking experience in a cellar handling 100 tons or more
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Good planning, organizing & record keeping skills
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail and pro-activeness
  • Valid Code B driver’s license and access to reliable transport
  • Good communication skills (speak and understand Afrikaans and/or English)
  • Willingness to work extended hours, particularly during the harvest season
