Stellenbosch

We’re adding an on-shift “right hand” position to our Tasting Room Manager for the busy season. As Tasting Room Duty Lead, you’ll be the captain of the day: guiding the team, keeping service humming, handling admin, and stepping in when the manager is off. This is a fixed term role, salary paid monthly, with more frequent shifts in peak season.

Rustenberg Wines – Stellenbosch

Driver’s licence and own transport required (NOT NEGOTIABLE).

Contract & Availability

  • Fixed‑term: 12 months
  • Part‑time, paid monthly
  • Shifts: typically 3–6 per week in peak season (weekdays + some weekends/public holidays – will not be required to work Christmas Day or New Years Day as we are closed)
  • On‑call backup required across peak periods (especially December)
  • Start: September 2025

What you’ll do

  • Lead on the floor: open/close, set the day’s plan, brief team, maintain service standards.
  • Guest experience: host tastings, handle VIPs, resolve issues gracefully, jump in where needed.
  • Team guidance: coach team in-the-moment; model pace, polish, and product knowledge.
  • Admin & ops: cash‑ups, bookings, POS and stock take
  • Comms & handover: concise end‑of‑day reporting; flag issues; keep the manager looped in.
  • Stand‑in coverage: act as the responsible person when the Tasting Room Manager is off‑site.

What you bring

  • Experience: 2+ years in a tasting room / cellar door / premium hospitality environment.
  • People leadership signals: you’ve run a section, led briefings, trained newcomers, or captained multiple shifts.
  • Wine confidence: WSET 3 or equivalent knowledge is a plus; love of wine is a must.
  • Systems: comfortable with POS, bookings, cash‑up, email communication, Excel/Google Sheets; detail‑driven with procedures.
  • Composure: calm under pressure, solution‑oriented, great judgement.
  • Language: Fluent English; additional languages an advantage.
  • Professionalism: well‑presented, punctual, reliable; legal drinking age.
  • Availability: weekends/public holidays in season; flexible for on‑call.

Why this is a great step

  • Work side‑by‑side with the Tasting Room Manager with structured coaching.
  • Build real lead-on-shift experience without the full weight of a manager.
  • Strong reference on successful completion of the 12‑month contract; clear pathway to future management roles.

Remuneration

  • Monthly pay (part‑time contract).
  • Remuneration will be market-related, based on the successful candidate’s experience and qualifications.
  • Details discussed with shortlisted candidates. (No commission; standard public‑holiday/weekend expectations apply.)
