Blaauwklippen Wine Estate, one of South Africa’s oldest and most iconic wine estates, is seeking a passionate and driven Kitchen Assistant to join our team at the Farmhouse Deli.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead daily kitchen operations, from food preparation and cooking to plating and presentation.
  • Deliver consistently high-quality, well-presented dishes during regular service and special events.
  • Ensure smooth and timely service in collaboration with front-of-house staff.
  • Assist in menu development, incorporating seasonal and customer feedback-driven changes.
  • Maintain high standards of hygiene, food safety, and cleanliness throughout all kitchen areas.
  • Manage mise en place, portioning, and kitchen efficiency to minimize waste.
  • Oversee stock levels, receiving deliveries, and quality control of ingredients.
  • Support the execution of estate events, market days, and private functions.
  • Ensure maintenance and proper handling of all kitchen equipment.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 1 year experience in a professional kitchen environment (café, deli, wine estate, or boutique hospitality preferred).
  • Proven ability to manage a kitchen independently during busy service hours.
  • Strong culinary skills with a focus on rustic, seasonal, and health-conscious food.
  • Solid understanding of portion control, food cost management, and kitchen systems.
  • Working knowledge of health & safety standards, HACCP, and hygiene regulations.
  • Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, and teamwork.
  • Availability to work weekends, public holidays, and occasional evenings.
  • Good communication skills and a collaborative spirit.
  • Physically fit and able to meet the demands of a dynamic kitchen environment.

Preferred Attributes:

  • Culinary qualification or formal food preparation training.
  • Creative eye for plating and a strong palate for seasonal flavours.
  • Passion for sustainability, local produce, and wine-pairing concepts.
  • Reliable transport to and from Blaauwklippen Estate.
  • First-Aid Level 1 certification.
  • Enthusiasm for engaging in a guest-centric, food-forward experience.
