A renowned and prestigious wine estate in Stellenbosch invites applications for the position of Vineyard Manager.
The position to start in APRIL 2026.
Location: Stellenbosch, Western Cape
Position Type: Full-time, permanent
Key Responsibilities
As Vineyard Manager, you will:
- Assist the current Vineyard & Estate Manager in all aspects of vineyard operations, gradually assuming full leadership responsibilities.
- Plan, coordinate and oversee all vineyard activities including soil preparation, planting, canopy management, irrigation, pruning, harvesting, and pest/disease control.
- Implement and maintain viticultural practices that ensure the highest quality grapes consistent with the estate’s premium wine standards.
- Manage vineyard staff, seasonal workers, and contractors, ensuring efficient and safe work practices.
- Work closely with the winemaking team to align viticultural practices with desired wine styles and quality objectives.
- Oversee the maintenance and management of vineyard equipment and infrastructure.
- Manage vineyard budgets, cost controls and reporting.
- Ensure compliance with environmental, health and safety regulations.
- Drive innovation and sustainability initiatives in viticulture to maintain the estate’s reputation for excellence.
Qualifications & Experience
The ideal candidate will have:
- A relevant tertiary qualification in Viticulture, Oenology, Agricultural Science or a related field.
- At least 10–15 years of progressive experience in vineyard management or senior viticulture roles (premium wine production experience advantageous).
- Strong knowledge of South African viticultural practices, soils, and climates (particularly in the Stellenbosch region).
- Knowledge & experience of Organic farming practices will be advantageous
- Knowledge & experience of Biodynamic farming practices will be advantageous
- Proven leadership and staff management skills.
- Sound budgeting, planning and reporting abilities.
- Sound financial and costing background regarding farming operations
- A passion for premium wine production and a commitment to excellence.
- Excellent organisational, problem-solving and communication skills.
- A valid driver’s licence.
