Kendrick Recruitment is seeking a motivated and skilled Pastry Commis Chef to join a prestigious luxury wine estate in Stellenbosch. The successful candidate will assist with ingredient preparation and support the kitchen team, ensuring high-quality food presentation and exceptional guest experiences.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide professional, friendly, and proactive service while assisting other chefs
Ensure consistency in the preparation of all food items for a la carte and/or buffet menus according to recipes and standards
Assist with deliveries and kitchen organisation
Actively contribute ideas and suggestions during daily shift briefings
Complete daily checks of all mise-en-place to ensure freshness and quality standards
Maintain proper rotation of products
Have full knowledge of all menu items, daily features, and promotions
Ensure cleanliness and maintenance of all work areas, utensils, and equipment
Follow all safety and sanitation policies when handling food and beverages
Requirements:
Grade 12 plus Chef Certificate/Diploma
Preferably 1–2 years’ previous experience as a Commis Chef in 5-star restaurants
Availability to work within opening hours, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to maintain professional working relationships across all departments
Strong attention to detail
Efficient, self-disciplined, and productive
Ability to work under pressure
