Our client, based in Franschhoek, has an exciting opportunity for a Head Chef to join their restaurant team. The successful candidate will oversee all kitchen operations and ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality dishes.
The role requires strong leadership, efficient service management, effective cost control, and strict adherence to food safety and hygiene standards during peak daytime service. The restaurant operates seven days a week and serves lunch only.
The successful candidate will be responsible for: *Kitchen Operations: Deliver daily lunch menus to standard and schedule; Ensure fast, efficient service during peak periods; Maintain consistency in preparation and presentation. *Staff Leadership: Supervise, train, and support kitchen staff; Manage staffing for lunch service; Maintain a professional kitchen environment. *Cost Control: Control food costs, portions, and waste; Manage ordering, stock, and budgets. *Health & Safety: Maintain food safety and hygiene standards; Keep accurate kitchen records and cleanliness. *Quality Control: Ensure consistent food quality; Address feedback and dietary requirements; Coordinate with front-of-house. *All other tasks related to this role.
Essential qualifications, skills, and experience:
- A relevant tertiary qualification and/or accredited practical training;
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar position;
- Fully bilingual (Afrikaans & English);
- Excellent timekeeping and reliability;
- Own reliable transport.
