Senior Accountant
Location: Lomond Wine Estate – Gansbaai / Overberg, Western Cape
Reports to: CEO
Type: Full-time

Role Overview

Lomond Wine Estate is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to oversee the full accounting function of a vertically integrated wine estate, including farming, production, inventory, and sales operations. The successful candidate will ensure accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and regulatory compliance while supporting operational decision-making across viticulture, cellar, and commercial activities.
This role requires hands-on involvement in daily finance operations together with higher-level financial analysis and process improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting
• Prepare monthly management accounts, including income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow
• Perform monthly reconciliations (bank, creditors, debtors, inventory, fixed assets, intercompany)
• Lead month-end and year-end close processes
• Assist with annual budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis
• Prepare management financial reports with operational insights
Production & Inventory Accounting (Wine/Agriculture specific)
• Maintain accurate costing of wine production (grapes, bulk wine, bottling, dry goods, labour, overhead allocation)
• Manage inventory accounting for raw materials, WIP, finished goods, and consumables
• Oversee stock counts and variance investigations
• Track vintage costs and seasonal production cycles
• Support margin analysis per product line/SKU/channel

Compliance & Tax
• Ensure compliance with SARS requirements including VAT, PAYE, excise duties, and other statutory returns
• Manage excise accounting and reporting where applicable to wine production
• Prepare audit schedules and liaise with external auditors
• Maintain adherence to internal controls and accounting policies
Operational Finance Support
• Partner with cellar, farming, and sales teams to provide financial insights and cost control
• Monitor cash flow and working capital, particularly around harvest and seasonal peaks
• Evaluate capital expenditure and asset management (equipment, vineyards, infrastructure)
• Improve financial systems, processes, and reporting efficiencies

Team & Systems
• Supervise junior finance staff/bookkeepers where applicable
• Oversee accounts payable and receivable functions
• Maintain accounting systems and ensure data integrity
• Support accounting software enhancements and integrations

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• Professional qualification or progress toward CA(SA), CIMA, or SAIPA advantageous
• 5–8+ years’ accounting experience, preferably in agriculture, wine, FMCG, or manufacturing environments
• Experience with inventory and production costing essential
• Strong knowledge of VAT and South African tax regulations
• Proficient in accounting software and advanced Excel
• Must be based in or willing to relocate to Gansbaai
