An established, upmarket wine estate in Stellenbosch is seeking a dynamic and experienced HR and Health & Safety Officer to join their team. This is a hands-on role suited to a professional who is equally comfortable managing people’s processes and ensuring compliance in a fast-paced, multi-department environment.

You will take full responsibility for the Human Resources and Occupational Health & Safety functions across the estate, supporting a diverse workforce spanning hospitality, agriculture, and administration. The role requires strong operational involvement, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of South African labour legislation.

Key Responsibilities

Human Resources

  • Manage the full HR function across multiple departments including cellar, vineyard, restaurant, events, guest accommodation, and administration
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and employee lifecycle processes
  • Maintain HR policies, procedures, and employee records
  • Handle disciplinary processes, grievances, and employee relations matters
  • Provide guidance to line managers on labour legislation and best practice

Payroll & Wages

  • Process monthly salaries and bi-weekly wages
  • Manage time & attendance inputs, overtime, leave, and deductions
  • Ensure payroll accuracy and compliance
  • Liaise with finance and external payroll providers

Health & Safety

  • Oversee full Occupational Health & Safety compliance
  • Conduct risk assessments across all operational areas
  • Maintain safety files and documentation
  • Coordinate training, inductions, and PPE compliance
  • Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions

Industrial Relations

  • Manage disciplinary hearings and documentation
  • Represent the employer in CCMA matters if required
  • Ensure fair, consistent, and legally compliant processes

Time & Attendance

  • Manage biometric clocking system
  • Monitor absenteeism, overtime, and workforce trends
  • Report on labour costs and productivity

 Minimum Requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in Human Resources, Industrial Psychology, or related field
  • 3–5 years’ HR experience (hospitality, agriculture, or similar environment advantageous)
  • Strong knowledge of South African labour legislation
  • Experience with payroll systems and time & attendance platforms
  • Health & Safety qualification (advantageous)

This position will ideally suit an individual with strong administrative and organizational skills. The position requires high attention to detail & the ability to engage effectively across all staff levels.  Sound conflict resolution and disciplinary management skills will be imperative to ensure a positive & safe working environment.
