Blaauwklippen Wine Estate is seeking a passionate and driven Assistant Winemaker to join our dynamic cellar team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work closely with the Head Winemaker across all aspects of winemaking, from harvest through to bottling, while contributing to the production of high-quality wines.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Winemaker with all cellar and warehouse operations, ensuring smooth day-to-day functioning
- Support planning, organizing and hands-on execution of all cellar processes (from harvest to labelling)
- Participate in regular wine tastings and evaluations
- Conduct routine wine monitoring, including sampling, analysis, and additions
- Assist with maintenance of cellar equipment and warehouse facilities
- Support stock management, including ordering of bulk wine, dry goods, additives, chemicals, and unlabeled wines
- Ensure cellar hygiene standards are implemented and maintained
- Assist with bottling and labelling processes
- Manage SAWIS documentation, certification, and annual stock takes
- Perform general administrative duties, including order placement, goods receiving, and invoice logging
- Provide supervision and leadership of cellar staff in the absence of the Winemaker
- Conduct wine tastings and pairings in collaboration with Sales and Marketing teams
- Coordinate logistics for bottling and labelling of brandy and gin products
- Ensure compliance with IPW and WIETA standards
Minimum Requirements
- BSc Agric Degree in Viticulture & Oenology
- 2–3 harvest practical experience in a cellar environment
- Valid forklift licence and strong driving experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a team and lead when required
- High level of attention to detail and organisational skills
- Willingness to learn and grow within the role
