Quality Assurance Manager - Berries - Stellenbosch

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Quality Systems & Reporting: Own and maintain QC reporting systems (Ketendo, D6), ensuring data integrity and actionable insights.
  2. Resource Management & Training: Lead and train QC teams, manage third-party inspectors, and oversee seasonal planning.
  3. Standards & Specifications: Translate customer requirements into robust specifications, maintain SOPs, and ensure label compliance.
  4. Claims & Producer Communication: Evaluate claims, provide evidence-based feedback, and drive continuous improvement with producers.
  5. Leadership & Collaboration: Engage and develop direct reports, chair weekly quality meetings, and liaise across Technical, Sales, and Operations.
  6. Budget Oversight: Provide technical input for budgets, monitor expenditure, and ensure compliance with financial guidelines.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Diploma/Degree in a relevant field (essential).
  • 5–7 years’ experience in fruit quality control.
  • 3–4 years’ management experience.
  • Knowledge of local regulatory requirements and the export fruit industry.
  • Experience with the soft fruit industry and QC systems (desirable).

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Close attention to detail and excellent communication abilities.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office proficiency.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to new systems and processes.
  • Effective time management and organisational skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel extensively during the season.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to compliance and quality outcomes.
  • Comfortable with extended travel and time away from home.
