Under the Influence is on a mission to bring better beverages to Africa, sourcing wine and spirits directly from top independent producers in South Africa and abroad and delivering them, along with the stories behind them, into 25 African countries. We operate from regional offices and warehouses in Stellenbosch / Somerset West (South Africa), Lusaka (Zambia) and Nairobi (Kenya).
At the heart of our offering is Beverageintelligence, our bespoke training and list-management platform. We believe our work doesn't end when a beverage is delivered, that's where it begins. Through Beverageintelligence we equip our partners, from lodges and hotels to restaurants and distributors, with the knowledge, confidence and stories they need to sell beverages brilliantly and create unforgettable guest experiences. We have trained over 35,000 learners across Africa, mainly in the hospitality industry.
The role
We're looking for an Education Manager (Learning & Development Manager) to lead and grow the learning side of Beverageintelligence. You'll own the creation of our courses, the engagement of our learners, and the planning and execution of end-to-end learning journeys across the business.
This is a role for someone who is equal parts educator, storyteller and marketer, someone who can turn product knowledge and producer stories into learning experiences people genuinely want to complete. You'll shape how thousands of people across Africa learn about wine, spirits and the art of serving them well. The role is based 3 days per week in the warehouse near Somerset West and 2 days per week working from home.
What you'll do
Course creation & curriculum design
- Design, build and maintain engaging courses, modules and assessments across our beverage portfolio and service topics.
- Translate technical and producer knowledge into clear, compelling and memorable learning content.
- Develop a range of formats, video, written, interactive and live, suited to different audiences and learning styles.
- Keep content fresh, accurate and aligned with trends in the beverage industry.
Learner engagement
- Build and nurture an active community of learners, driving enrolment, participation and completion.
- Design engagement strategies (campaigns, nudges, gamification, recognition) that keep learners coming back.
- Monitor learner progress and feedback, and use insights to continuously improve the experience.
Learning journeys, planning & execution
- Plan and execute structured learning journeys that take learners from beginner to expert over time.
- Map learning pathways to the needs of different partners and segments across our markets.
- Coordinate scheduling, rollouts and milestones, ensuring journeys are delivered on time and to a high standard.
Platform & systems (LMS)
- Own the day-to-day administration and optimisation of our Learning Management System.
- Manage course uploads, user management, reporting and platform configuration.
- Use data and analytics to track performance and demonstrate impact.
Storytelling & marketing
- Craft the narratives that bring producers, brands and beverages to life within our learning content.
- Plan and run marketing and communication campaigns to promote courses and drive engagement.
- Build and execute email / mail campaigns using campaign software, from audience segmentation to performance tracking.
- Partner with the wider team to keep brand voice consistent and on-message.
What you'll bring

- Proven experience in learning & development, education or instructional design.
- Demonstrable course creation experience, ideally across multiple formats.

- Excellent written and verbal communication in English.
- Strong organisational and project-management skills, with the ability to plan and execute end-to-end.
- Based in Stellenbosch, Cape Town or Somerset West.
Advantageous
- Knowledge of or passion for the wine, spirits or wider beverage industry (a recognised wine/spirits qualification is a plus).
- Experience in hospitality, tourism or beverage distribution.
- Familiarity with video creation, graphic design or content tools.

Who you are
- A natural educator who loves making complex things simple and enjoyable to learn.
