Most accountants can tell us what happened.

We're looking for someone who can tell us why it happened.

Someone who understands that the cost of a bottle of wine doesn't begin at bottling, it begins in the vineyard. Someone who sees the connection between farming decisions, cellar operations, inventory, logistics, exports and ultimate profitability.

If you've ever wanted to work in a business where your financial insight genuinely influences commercial decisions, this could be the role for you.

Iwayini is the proud owner of two distinguished South African wine estates: Neethlingshof Wine Estate and Villiera Wines. We are committed to growing volume and value sales and building powerful brand equity in the competitive South African market. Iwayini operates with the global backing and strategic vision of our parent company, Les Grands Chais de France (LGCF), one of the world's largest family-owned wine businesses, selling over 500 million bottles annually across the globe

We're looking for someone who enjoys complexity, asks questions, and wants to become an indispensable business partner—not just another accountant.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Building and maintaining robust costing models across vineyards, cellar operations, bottling and manufacturing
  • Understanding and analyzing the true cost of producing every bottle of wine
  • Managing inventory valuation, stock reconciliations and production accounting
  • Monitoring production efficiencies and identifying opportunities to improve margins
  • Calculating standard costs and investigating cost variances
  • Supporting pricing decisions for both local and export markets
  • Managing landed cost calculations for imported materials and export logistics
  • Supporting customs, excise and international trade reporting
  • Assisting with budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting
  • Working closely with production, cellar, procurement and commercial teams to improve profitability

You will:

  • understand manufacturing costing principles
  • appreciate agricultural production cycles
  • be curious enough to walk through a cellar to understand where costs originate
  • enjoys solving commercial problems with numbers
  • be able to explain complex financial information in simple language
  • challenge assumptions rather than accept them
  • love Excel but know that spreadsheets don't tell the whole story
  • notice small discrepancies before they become expensive mistakes
  • want to help the business make better decisions—not just produce reports

Required

  • A degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field
  • 3–5 years' experience in cost accounting or manufacturing finance
  • Strong knowledge of inventory accounting and costing methodologies
  • Excellent Excel and ERP skills (Wine Industry ERP experience would be highly advantageous e.g. EzyWine, Wine MS, etc
  • Strong analytical ability
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • A proactive, commercially minded approach
  • The confidence to engage with operational teams across the business

Professional qualifications such as CIMA, SAICA or SAIPA would be advantageous.
