Under the Influence is on a mission to bring better beverages to Africa, sourcing wine and spirits directly from top independent producers in South Africa and abroad and delivering them, along with the stories behind them, into 25 African countries. We operate from regional offices and warehouses in Stellenbosch / Somerset West (South Africa), Lusaka (Zambia) and Nairobi (Kenya).
At the heart of our offering is Beverageintelligence, our bespoke training and list-management platform. We believe our work doesn't end when a beverage is delivered, that's where it begins. Through Beverageintelligence we equip our partners, from lodges and hotels to restaurants and distributors, with the knowledge, confidence and stories they need to sell beverages brilliantly and create unforgettable guest experiences.
We have trained over 35,000 learners across Africa, mainly in the hospitality industry.
We're looking for someone to help us make the day-to-day learning experience exceptional for these learners.
Location: Stellenbosch, Cape Town or Somerset West (Western Cape, South Africa)
Type: Full-time, hybrid
The role
We're looking for a Learning Experience Coordinator to support the smooth running and continuous improvement of the Beverageintelligence learning experience.
You'll sit at the centre of the day-to-day learner journey, helping learners across Africa navigate their learning, stay engaged and get the most out of the platform and programmes.
You'll be responsible for learner communications and engagement, LMS administration, learning coordination and supporting the development and maintenance of learning content. You'll work closely with Education Coaches, Account Managers, subject matter experts and the wider Under the Influence team to make sure learners know what to do, have what they need and stay motivated throughout their learning journey.
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys making things happen: organised enough to keep multiple learning programmes moving, creative enough to make communications engaging, and proactive enough to spot problems before they become bigger ones.
What you'll do
Learner experience & engagement
- Coordinate the day-to-day learner experience across Beverageintelligence programmes.
- Monitor learner participation and coordinate learner nudges, reminders, announcements and other engagement activities.
- Support Education Coaches and Account Managers with learner engagement and follow-up.
- Respond to learner queries, gather feedback and identify recurring issues and opportunities.
Learning communications
- Plan and execute learner communications across email, WhatsApp and other relevant channels.
- Develop and monitor engaging communication campaigns that encourage learners to start, continue and complete their learning.
- Help maintain a consistent Under the Influence / Beverageintelligence voice across learner communications.
LMS & platform administration
- Manage the day-to-day administration of the Beverageintelligence learning platform.
- Manage learner enrolments, groups, access, course assignments and content updates.
- Support assessments, certificates, progress tracking and other platform functionality.
- Monitor the learner experience and troubleshoot or escalate technical and usability issues.
- Produce regular learner and programme reports and maintain accurate learning records.
Content development & maintenance
- Support the development and maintenance of online learning modules.
- Work with subject matter experts and the wider education team to turn knowledge and ideas into engaging learning experiences.
- Assist with the creation and editing of written, visual, video and interactive learning content.
- Build and maintain content within the LMS, including quizzes, activities and assessments.
Learning coordination
- Coordinate the operational delivery of online learning cohorts and programmes.
- Maintain learning calendars, schedules and key programme milestones.
- Coordinate course launches, enrolments, assessments and completion activities.
- Work with Education Coaches and internal stakeholders to connect online and in-person learning experiences.
- Ensure learning materials, resources and actions are ready when needed.
Data, reporting & continuous improvement
- Monitor learner engagement, participation, completion and other relevant learning metrics.
- Produce regular reports and summaries for the education team and wider business.
- Use learner feedback and data to identify patterns, concerns and opportunities.
- Suggest and help implement improvements to learner communications, engagement activities and learning processes.
What you'll bring
Essential
- Experience in learning and development, education, digital learning, training coordination, learner support or a related field.
- Experience working with an LMS or other digital learning platform.
- Strong organisational and coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple activities and deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication in English.
- Strong attention to detail and pride in producing accurate, high-quality work.
- Confidence working with digital tools and learning technology.
- A proactive, problem-solving approach—you notice things that aren't working and do something about them.
- Comfortable working independently while collaborating closely with a wider team.
Advantageous
- Experience administering an LMS such as Open edX, Moodle, Canvas or similar.
- Experience developing digital learning content or working with instructional designers.
- Experience with learner analytics or reporting.
- Familiarity with content creation tools, video editing or graphic design.
- Experience in hospitality, tourism, wine, spirits or the broader beverage industry.
- Experience working across African or emerging markets.
Who you are
You're someone who gets things done.
You care about the details, but don't lose sight of the bigger picture. You enjoy making things work better and get satisfaction from seeing people engage with something you've helped create.
You're:
- Learner-focused – genuinely interested in what makes people engage with and enjoy learning.
- Organised – able to keep multiple moving parts under control without needing to be chased.
- Proactive – you spot problems and opportunities and take action.
- A strong communicator – you can write clearly, warmly and engagingly.
- Digitally confident – you enjoy learning new tools and aren't intimidated by technology.
- Creative and curious – interested in people, learning, beverages and the world around you.
- Collaborative and reliable – comfortable working with coaches, subject matter experts and colleagues across the business.
- A continuous improver – you don't just keep things running; you're always looking for ways to make them better.
You don't need to know everything about learning or beverages when you start. Curiosity, initiative and a genuine interest in creating great learning experiences matter more.
