Slanghoek Wine Cellar, a prestigious wine cellar in the beautiful Slanghoek Valley near Rawsonville, is looking for an experienced Winemaker to join their team. They are looking for a hands-on, detail-oriented individual, with strong interpersonal and communication skills, a positive attitude and a passion for producing quality wines. The ideal candidate will have sound knowledge of the winemaking process and experience working in a production-focused cellar environment.
Reporting to the Senior Winemaker, duties will include (but are not limited to): *Manage and oversee the complete winemaking process, from grape intake through to finished product *Ensure consistent quality and adherence to production standards *Manage and coordinate cellar staff and production activities *Monitor and improve winemaking and production processes *Maintain accurate production and administrative records *Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and product quality *Ensure compliance with applicable quality-control and safety requirements (ISO 22000, HACCP, IPW & WIETA) *Assist with maintaining a clean, safe and well-organised cellar environment *Work closely with the broader production team to ensure smooth and efficient cellar operations *All other duties related to the role.
Essential qualifications, skills, and experience:
- Relevant qualification in Viticulture and/or Oenology;
- Practical experience in a commercial cellar environment, preferably with white wine production;
- Strong technical knowledge of the winemaking process;
- Experience with cellar production and quality-control procedures;
- Knowledge of ISO 22000, HACCP, IPW and WIETA requirements;
- Strong administrative and reporting skills;
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team;
- Valid driver’s licence.
