Are you passionate about the science of winemaking? Koelenhof Winery, an award-winning cellar in the heart of the Stellenbosch Winelands, is seeking a meticulous, energetic, and motivated Harvest Laboratory Assistant to join our production team for the upcoming 2027 harvest season.
This role offers excellent practical exposure to high-volume wine analysis and quality control in a fast-paced, collaborative cellar environment.
Contract Period: January – April 2027
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Wine & Juice Analysis: Assist the winemaking team by performing routine chemical analyses on grape juice and fermenting wine (including sugar, pH, TA, VA, alcohol, and sulfur levels).
- Sampling: Collect accurate representative samples from various cellar tanks and fermentation vessels daily.
- Lab Hygiene & Maintenance: Ensure rigorous cleaning and calibration of laboratory apparatus, equipment, and work surfaces.
- Inventory & Stock Control: Monitor lab chemical supplies and assist with regular stocktake.
- Data Management: Meticulously record analysis data and assist with general laboratory administrative tasks..
Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: Matric (Grade 12) required. A degree or diploma in Oenology, Viticulture, Biotechnology, or Food Science is highly advantageous (current students looking for harvest experience are welcome to apply).
- Experience: Prior experience in a wine laboratory or basic knowledge of hand-method wine analysis is preferred but not essential.
- Skills: Excellent attention to detail, strong numerical skills, and basic computer literacy (MS Office).
- Logistics: Must have a valid driver’s license and own reliable transport.
- Flexibility: Willingness to work flexible, extended hours as required by the harvest schedule.
