Position Overview:

De Toren Private Cellar currently has a seasonal vacancy for a tasting room assistant. The expected duration is 5 – 6 months, starting 1 November 2024.
As a Tasting Room Assistant at De Toren Private Cellar, you will play an important role in delivering a memorable and informative wine tasting experience to our valued guests. You will be responsible for engaging with visitors, guiding them through our wine selection, sharing insights about our winemaking process, and ensuring their visit is enjoyable and educational. Working hours are from 08:00 – 17:00 Mondays to Fridays with occasional weekend or overtime hours which will be appropriately compensated for.

Key Responsibilities:

•Greet and welcome visitors to the tasting room with warmth and professionalism.
•Conduct wine tastings, showcasing the unique qualities and characteristics of De Toren wines.
•Provide in-depth knowledge about our wines, vineyards, and winemaking techniques.
•Maintain a clean and organized tasting room, including setting up and breaking down tasting areas.
•Handle wine sales, process transactions, and manage inventory accurately.
•Earn commission on sales, incentivizing proactive engagement and effective upselling.
•Assist with set up and breakdown of events and conferences.
•Provide guest service during events and conferences.
•Uphold the highest standards of customer service to enhance guest satisfaction.

Requirements and Qualifications:

•Previous experience in a customer-facing role, preferably in the hospitality or wine industry.
•Passion for and basic knowledge of wines and winemaking processes.
•Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and connect with diverse groups of people.
•Energetic, friendly, and approachable demeanor.
•Strong sales skills and the ability to upsell and promote wine products effectively.
•Attention to detail and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
•Must be at least 18 years old.
•Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and extended hours as needed.
•Proficiency in handling point-of-sale systems and basic computer applications.
•Ability to stand for extended periods and lift moderately heavy boxes.
•Fluent proficiency in English and Afrikaans; additional language skills are a plus.
•A genuine eagerness to learn about De Toren wines and share that knowledge with guests.

Duration and Compensation: This position is seasonal, with an anticipated duration of [5 months].

Compensation will include R7,500.00 monthly wage, along with commission earned on sales, creating an opportunity for lucrative earnings based on your performance.

Working on weekends or after-hour events will also be compensated for additionally.
