Asara Wine Estate, based in Stellenbosch, has an exciting position available for a dynamic, hands-on, detailed individual who communicates well (Afrikaans & English), and enjoys working closely with a smaller team. The Winemaker will be solely responsible for the Cellar and Wine Production whilst creating premium bottled wines.

The ideal candidate has a real passion for winemaking, is committed to excellence and should be able to be a leader of the cellar team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for (but not be limited to): *the entire winemaking process and bottling *ensuring compliance with relevant quality standards (ISO, HACCP, BRC), accreditations/certifications (IPW, SAWIS), and ethical audits (WIETA/Fairtrade) *inventory management of bulk wine *entries to competitions *health & safety requirements *personnel management *liaison with clients and suppliers *all other functions related to the position.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience:

  • A relevant qualification in Viticulture and Oenology;
  • Minimum 5-8 years' relevant experience;
  • Experience with premium bottled wines will be to the candidate’s advantage;
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant quality systems and accreditations;
  • Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office, EzyWine).

Commencement date: As soon as possible
