JOB DESCRIPTION – Estate Maintenance Manager
We seek a skilled Millwright and proactive Maintenance Manager to lead maintenance and repair operations for a prestigious estate.
Position Summary:
The Maintenance Manager must ensure seamless operations by planning, organising, and performing preventative maintenance tasks within the allocated budget. The manager must also ensure the upkeep of all infrastructure (buildings, roads, solar system, and wine cellar), vehicles, and farm equipment.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure all infrastructure remains functional, safe, and well-maintained.
- Lead and manage the maintenance team effectively.
- Plan and oversee repair, installation, and renovation projects.
- Minimise operational disruptions during maintenance and upgrades.
- Co-ordinate and implement all maintenance and repair activities across the Estate.
- Oversee preventive and emergency maintenance projects, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and procedures.
- Manage relationships with contractors and vendors.
- Provide leadership, motivation, and coaching to foster a productive maintenance team.
- Oversee staff performance and professional development.
- Develop and manage the maintenance budget, procuring necessary materials and equipment.
- Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety regulations and food safety certification standards.
- Will be designated as a GMR 2 Competent Person for machinery by the Department of Labour.
- Maintain security systems, conducting regular checks and detailed reporting.
Qualifications and Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of mechanics and farm equipment, electrical systems, building maintenance, plumbing, infrastructure, solar systems, and winery equipment is essential.
- A tertiary qualification in a technical field (Red Seal trade certification is highly advantageous).
- The applicant must have at least six years of experience in a technical and managerial role.
- Demonstrated project management and leadership abilities.
- The applicant must have stamina and the ability to work long hours in various outdoor conditions as and when required.
- A readiness to put in extra hours, including standby and on-call work during busy times.
- The applicant must be proficient in maintenance management software and other relevant computer applications.
- Experience with automation systems and programmable logic controllers is beneficial.
- Certifications in Working at Heights, heavy lifting equipment, and a forklift license are beneficial.
- The applicant must preferably reside within 40 km of Stellenbosch or should be willing to relocate.
- The applicant must be able to operate alone and cooperatively in a group.
- The applicant must have good problem-solving abilities, decision-making, and attention to detail.
