Our Client a medium sized Artisan Chocolate Manufacturer is looking for a Production Manager that will manage personnel and production processes. The production manager will oversee the overall management of our three production units.

Duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Demand planning

  • Ensuring that all product demand requirements are fulfilled by leasing regularly with the sales team

  • Production planning and scheduling

  • Interfacing directly with cocoa bean farmers

  • Manage the procurement of raw materials packaging and consumables

  • Managing the stock system in line with optimising cash flow, cost, shelf life and storage

  • Manage the overall production budget

  • Manage all aspects of human resource requirements including labour unions

  • Schedule and manage the daily production activities of all three production units

  • Implement and manage a quality control program

  • Manage the current Occupational Health and Safety program

  • Manage FSSC22000 and IBL food safety programs

  • Manage all USFDA requirements

  • Manage and implement food labelling requirements

  • Manage Organic UTZ Certification programs

  • Implement and manage a continuous improvement program

  • Manage the equipment maintenance program including breakdown activities and interfacing with sub-contractors

  • Manage the factory upgrade program

  • Manage the new product development program

Reports to: CEO


  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills

Requirements & Experience:

  • Relevant degree in Engineering, Production or Food Technology

  • 10 years’ experience in a Food Manufacturing Environment.

  • Budget and oversight experience

  • Familiarity with business and financial principles and practices

  • Leadership and organisational skills

  • Proven success record in similar role

  • Ability to manage and motivate people

Working Conditions:

This position will be based in Simondium, Western Cape. The conditions will include and as per employment contract.

  • Normal working hours will be From Monday – Friday, Due to the operational requirements of the position it will be expected of the person to be available on Saturday and Sundays.


Salary:  Market related and dependent on experience and qualification
