Twee Jonge Gezellen is an estate winery and vineyard located in the Tulbagh valley. We are seeking to employ a self-motivated, experienced farm production manager/viticulturist to report into the General Farm Manager.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Production of grapes under a wide variety of natural conditions including preparation of the land, planting, trellising, pruning, monitoring and controlling of pests and diseases, fertilizing, irrigation and canopy management.
  • Understand optimum ripeness (fruit development and characteristics) and proper harvesting of grapes.
  • Design and implement pest and disease control programs following pest management practices and a sustainable farming approach.
  • Use plant, climate and soil moisture monitoring equipment for scheduling irrigation and modelling grapevine shape/phrenology.
  • Diagnose and solve viticulture problems.
  • Collect, organize and report viticulture data to support farming and marketing decisions.
  • Planning and weekly management of all production processes.
  • Farm maintenance management.
  • Staff and contractor management.
  • Record keeping and compilation of key data and production reports.
  • Planning and management of the production budget.
  • Management of operating costs.
  • Quality management and all other duties relevant to the position.

Requirements:

Required education: Diploma / Bachelor’s degree in Viticulture, Oenology or Horticulture.

Other requirements:

  • At least 5 years’ relevant working experience with vineyards (including in a management capacity).
  • Knowledge and experience of relevant quality systems (IPW) & other regenerative viticulture techniques.
  • Fully bilingual (Afrikaans and English)
  • Team player, strong in communication and leadership skills
  • Good allrounder for general farming and maintenance required on farms.
  • Driver’s license
  • Be able to do basic animal husbandry.
