The Franschhoek Motor Museum are seeking to employ a presentable, hardworking and reliable individual as an Assistant Curator.

Duties include:

  • Identify, classify, catalogue, and research collection as necessary
  • Supervise periodic installation changes
  • Accurate labelling of display cases and objects
  • Audit and apprise the memorabilia collection
  • Carry out historical and object research to inform the writing of articles
  • Assist where necessary by providing information for the website, social media and to support all publicity activities
  • Coordinate and manage staff activities
  • Conduct guided tours of the museum for group visits as and when required
  • Assist the Curator to ensure that the museum continues to meet the requirements of the Museum Accreditation standard

Requirements:

  • Diploma in Museum and Heritage studies, coupled with relevant industry experience
  • Strong aptitude for administration - excellent research, writing, and editing skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively deal with staff and general public
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively deal with staff and general public
  • Strong project management skills
  • Ability to handle a variety of responsibilities simultaneously
  • Must be willing to work weekends and have own transport
