Sous Chef required for fine dining venue in Franschoek Valley

We would like to invite applications for a sous chef to commence duty in our fine dining restaurant. The sous position has the following roles, responsibilities and requirements.

Role and responsibilities 

  • Management of the kitchen in the absence of the head chef
  • Monitor and maintain availability of stock levels, kitchen health and safety and hygiene standards
  • Under the guidance of the head chef, effectively control the food costing, rotation and ordering processes
  • Supervision and management of junior kitchen staff in the absence of the head chef
  • Contribute to the creativeness of the kitchen with innovative ideas
  • The willingness to accept, implement and execute regular menu changes
  • Effective use of fresh seasonal produce

Requirements and skills 

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Attention to detail and customer service approach
  • Strong leadership skills and self starter
  • 2 to 3 years fine dining experience as a sous chef
  • The ideal candidate needs to be physically fit and healthy in this fast paced environment
  • This position requires the incumbent to work over weekends, public holidays and overtime
