Food Buyer / Foreign Stock administrator

The key focus areas of this role are:

• Procurement of all foreign based / foreign origin stock lines in conjunction with managing director and general manager

• General procurement and import administration

• Working alongside sales team and logistic team.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

• Local based foreign stock - Forecasting of future stock requirements based on current on hand stock levels and past sales


• Creating purchase orders and communicating with both the suppliers and logistics team

• Imports of foreign stock

• Updating costing sheet with new products and prices

• Applying for DAFF permit and managing the application / renewal process.

• Processing of incoming imported stock into Evolution with GRV’s, using the costing sheets

• Souring products / special requests stock items for customers.

• Identifying Future Shortages 

• Planning and managing stock takes

• Follow up with Suppliers 'daily' / constantly on pending orders, ensure that the flow of information is maintained with all parties concerned.

• Ensure that sectional supervisors and pickers are adhering to proper stock rotation, quality of stock and report abnormalities

• Work closely with all areas of the business

• Keep accurate records of technical sheets, health certificates and certifications.

• Build and maintain good relationships with suppliers and service providers.

Required profile:

Must have food buying experience



Personality: Self-driven, results-oriented with a positive outlook, and a clear focus on efficient procurement and inventory management. An organised and systematic forward planner. Must have love for food.

Skill Sets : A mature, reliable and determined person who is comfortable in dealing with multiple suppliers and service providers in a fast paced environment. Able to multi-task and manage / guide diverse situations and people. A good communicator with a no nonsense approach to getting the job done.

Computer skills: Must be proficient in use of MS Office, particularly Excel and have a detailed working knowledge of Sage Evolution.
