Our client is a niche market manufacturing company located in the Boland area of the Western Cape.  They require an experienced General Manager to take up the role of     Head of Site Operations / Operations Manager, as part of their top executive team with strong experience in a high volume manufacturing environment.

Job summary:

  • Responsible for strategy, budgets, people, financial outcomes and scorecard metrics
  • Responsible for general management of plant Operations (incl. Planning, Process  Engineering, Manufacturing, Maintenance and Product Warehousing)
  • To direct, manage and optimize the overall Operations of the plant. Coordinates plant level support functions (incl. Finance, Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Quality Assurance, SHE, IT & HR to ensure alignment with overall plant Operations).

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership for the successful day-to-day Operations
  • Strategy creation & implementation - designed to grow the business
  • Coordinate the development of key performance goals for functions & direct reports
  • Provide direct management of key-functional Managers/ Executives
  • Ensure overall delivery and quality of the unit's offerings to customers
  • Oversee key hiring and talent development programs
  • Evaluate & decide upon key investments in equipment, infrastructure, talent
  • Manage Operational Risk, compliance to all relevant legislation i.e. OHS Act, etc.
  • Communicate strategy and results to the unit's employees
  • Report key results to Corporate Officers
  • Engage with Corporate Officers in broader organizational strategic planning
  • Supporting the development of a healthy internal culture of performance that retains key employees and encourages their professional development

Minimum requirements:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering or Industrial Engineering
  • Diploma/Degree in Business Management – advantageous
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in high-volume manufacturing, with 5 years of General Manager’s experience
  • MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook etc.)
  • Professional, well groomed – with high level of integrity & confidentiality
  • Good communicator with strong presentation & negotiations skills

Salary range:        Negotiable up to maximum R1.3m per annum
